Miss Margarida's Way August 26, 2009

Subtitled 'Tragicomic Monologue for an Impetuous Woman,' this satirical play by Brazil's Roberto Athayde is set in what looks like a schoolroom. Miss Margarida is an eighth grade teacher, and the audience is the class, whom she alternately harangues, confi des in, attempts to seduce, and tries to teach. Miss Margarida represents power: of the government, the church, the family-- raw power in all its forms.
