Seasoned performer Miss Lavelle White began performing in Houston clubs in the 1950s with the Johnny Copeland Band. She toured nationally throughout the 50s and 60s as an opening act or supporting act for numerous R&B artists, including B.B. King, Sam Cooke, Gladys Knight & The Pips, the Isley Brothers, Aretha Franklin, and Smokey Robinson.
