The late Mike Kelley (1954-2012) created compelling works in multiple mediums over the years, including drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, and video. Internationally celebrated, his work pushed the boundaries of installation art to pack subversive themes and unruly mediums into a single space. This exhibition features a major work, City 0000, from his series inspired by the city of Kandor in the Superman comic books, and the portfolio The Sublime. Raised in a working-class Catholic family, Kelley was fascinated by ritual, popular imagery, and notions of transcendence which shape these works and the legacy of dark humor and punk irreverence he has left.
