Michael O'Neill Quartet featuring Sandra Aran • Saxophone & Vocals

A recent reviewer enthused that Michael O'Neill “sounded like he could improvise all night without ever repeating himself once. His saxophone work is extraordinary. He plays with almost orchestral diction yet classic jazz chops. It makes him a rare treat, it's almost as if he's not only playing but teaching saxophone on stage.” Michael plays frequently at all the leading jazz venues in the Bay Are, both as a band leader and sideman. Vocalist Sandra Aran made her musical debut at age five in her native Mexico City. Since then, she has made music and performing her life. Studying the art of jazz and scat singing by transcribing the music of Al Jarreau, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Bobby McFerrin. Although her smooth sound and explosive stage presence are reminiscent of Sade, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Flora Purim, it is her original approach to jazz standards and her own material that make her truly unique.
