Internationally acclaimed novelist and poet Michael Ondaatje comes to the Skirball to read from and discuss his latest novel, The Cat’s Table, to be published by Knopf in October 2011.

Author of the Booker Award–winning novel The English Patient, the film adaption of which earned the Oscar for Best Film, Ondaatje has been hailed by critics worldwide for his artistry and dazzling prose style. The Cat’s Table chronicles an eleven-year-old boy’s sea voyage to England in 1950, which begins a lifelong journey of another sort. This vivid, poignant, and thrilling book is full of Ondaatje’s trademark set pieces and breathtaking images and is one of the most anticipated books of the year.

Michael Ondaatje is the author of five novels, a memoir, a nonfiction book on film, and eleven books of poetry. His fourth novel, Anil’s Ghost, won the Irish Times International Fiction Prize, the Giller Prize, and the Prix Médicis.
