Tenor Michael Kleitman in Concert
U.S. Performance Debut
“A Tribute to Luciano Pavarotti”
August 9, 2008

LOS ANGELES, CA – MICHAEL KLEITMAN will present “ A TRIBUTE TO LUCIANO PAVAROTTI” live at the historic Million Dollar Theater in downtown Los Angeles on August 9, 2008. Bringing together over a thousand fans of Luciano Pavarotti and Michael Kleitman for a night of inspiring classical music, the evening will honor Italian tenor, Luciano Pavarotti, who passed away in 2007.

This successful European tour is coming to the United States for the first time after sold-out shows in European venues.

Russian-Jewish tenor Michael Kleitman is regarded as one of today’s lyric tenors, whose talent bridges the diverse musical worlds of Opera and Pop, together with Andrea Bocelli and more recently Paul Potts.

Born to a musical oriented family, in Kishinev, Moldavia, part of the former Soviet Union, Kleitman finished studies in music and composition. He fled to Australia in 1994 seeking the refuge of a democratic society.

A few years later he embarked on an intense period of vocal training studying under some of the most legendary voices from the Operatic world such as tenor Carlo Bergonzi, soprano Mirella Freni and Arrigo Polo, whom had taught in the mid-fifties a young and promising tenor, Luciano Pavarotti.

Kleitman developed an impressive technique that allows him to float high notes, maintain sustained relaxed tones and tackle the most difficult of passages with rare easiness and virtuosity. His light, tender melodic touch befits the light lyric tenor’s operatic repertoire and today’s popular romantic
songs. Few can perform the Italian classic Caruso with such command
and support without sacrificing sensitivity.

In 1998, he launched his performing career. Among the various concerts and operas he performed, he showed a tendency toward popular Italian works from Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti

His participation in the XXVIII Olympic Games’ celebrations in Athens, Greece, launched him into instant stardom. In Germany, he became a favorite guest in special televised events and shows.

Among the highlights are his participation in tenor Jose Carreras’ European Galas, and most recently his performance in the worldwide broadcast concert paying tribute to German auto racer and sports legend, Michael Schumaker, which surpassed a 100 million viewership. The event featured Kleitman’s composition “Stand Up”.

His fluency in Russian, German, English, Italian, and vocal training in Spanish and French, allows him for a musical versatility of a cultural nature. When he recorded his 2004 solo album debut, La Perffetta Idea, here in Los Angeles, in addition to offering a banquet of romantic compositions in Italian, he surprises with a cover of legendary Mexican singer Jose Jose’s hit, Un Poco Mas. That same year he teamed up with Europe’s most successful hard-rock band The Scorpions, to cover Freddy Mercury’s classic, “We Are the Champions”, for their 2004 record, “You Are the Champion”. Kleitman can bring old nostalgia to a fellow Russian crowd, like the one he recently concerted in his city of birth, delivering with all the warmth of his native language an old Russian folk-song.

His Tribute to Luciano Pavarotti will include material that’s become familiar with Pavarotti fans, more acquainted with the Maestro in his recent musical crossover, as well operatic arias the he performed extensively during his impressive and brilliant career.

Kleitman first started dedicating his concerts to the Pavarotti soon after his diagnosis with cancer, and during his long struggle with the illness. His long admiration for the singer, and associations with many of Pavarotti’s friends and peers, motivated the gesture.

In Europe he has met with success and critical acclaim, consistently selling out performances.

During the tribute guest artists will join Michael Kleitman, into musical duets.

The event promises to delight audiences with Kleitman’s stage persona, whose multicultural approach to his art is ideal to Los Angeles’ culturally diverse community.
