The largest 4th of July celebration in downstate Illinois just got bigger. "Methodist Red, White and Boom!" will be expanding to three days of festivities including two national act concerts.

Again this year, the cities of Peoria and East Peoria will come together with JMP Radio Group, the Peoria Park District and the Peoria Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau for Methodist Red White and Boom, the spectacular display of pyrotechnics in the skies over the riverfront and choreographed to music on the JMP Radio Group stations. Melrose Pyrotechnics of Kingsbury, Indiana, will once again launch the fireworks extravaganza from barges in the middle of the Illinois River. Bob Kerns, spokesman for Melrose, says, "This year's show will include new products from Italy that will add a new element to the low level segments of the program." He adds, "We also have new and exciting shells like brocade gold butterflies complete with antenna feelers above the head. In all, approximately 8,000 shells will be used! Also look for shells that display a spinning, twisting silver whirl with strobe flashing colors." Both sides of the riverfront will host family-friendly activities including live concerts on the 4th, and this year, East Peoria will open a Beer Garden during the festivities.
JMP Radio Group will provide updated information in the weeks and months ahead on its radio stations; 1470 WMBD, Lite Rock 107, 93.3 The Drive, 104.9 The Wolf, 102.3 Max FM, and Classic Country 1290 WIRL.
