Amateur astronomer Paul Money FRAS, will be giving a talk for the Scarborough and Ryedale Astronomical Society entitled "The Messier Marathon".
For astronomers, a catalogue of 110 objects exists known as the Messier Catalogue. The majority of these objects were identified by the French comet hunter Charles Messier (1730-1817) who produced the catalogue to help himself and others to identify faint objects permanently in the sky. From the UK it is possible to observe all 110 objects in the catalogue in a single night and Paul was the first astronomer in the UK to complete such a challenge. In this talk, Paul will discuss his attempt and discuss some of the nebulae, galaxies and star clusters included in the catalogue.
