San Clemente/San Diego Border
Orange County, California

Please excuse the short notice, but a few of the B-MEN guys wanted to make the trek out to San Onofre this Sunday, 6/26, and so we're making this a short-notice event. :)

No set time to start/end, but if I can get out there myself and find a place to hang it, we'll have a large rainbow flag up...

BYO towel, beverages, SUNSCREEN, food, etc!

I recommend ride-sharing, as I believe the day-use parking fee is now $10 per vehicle.

If you are going on your own, fine, but if you want to car-pool, please e-mail [email protected] (or this address, since our usual is temporarily down at the moment), and I'll do my best to arrange it with others going and crossing paths.

[Basic directions follow, as written by a fellow beach-goer]
Take 5 South (you'll pass Dana Point) to Basalone Road. Exit at
Basalone and make a Right at the top of the ramp. Take the road as
it curves on toward the left. You'll pass Edison's San Onofre
Nuclear plant on your right. (It looks like a pair of giant boobs!)
A little farther on you'll reach the Ranger's station where you pay
the State Beach day use fee. I think it's around $6, but make sure
you have a little extra with you just in case it's gone up. Proceed
ahead past the various Trails (markers are on your right). You'll
see various camping and parking areas mostly on your right side.
You're heading for Trail 6, just about at the end of the road. When
you reach the Trail 6 area, park near the last restroom before the
end of the road. (The road ends at a chain link fence that would open
onto the Camp Pendleton Marine Base.) The trail you want starts
right behind that last restroom building.

Follow the trail down to the bottom of the hill, and then turn Left.
Take the path along the base of the hillside (which is now on your
left). Off a ways you will see a chain link fence that extends
partially onto the sand. That's where the "official" (it's not) nude
section is. Actually the accepted nude section is from the gully
past the last Lifeguard tower and onto the sand on the Camp Pendleton
side.

[A follow-up, posted by someone else]
The CO Section starts at the wash south of Tower #6 but before the chain link, the Tower used to be right next to the wash, but they moved it north. The chain link denotes the border of Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. Lot's of people go down there, but I've also seen the MP's chase people out. Sometimes they are not particularly nice about it either. Also, when you get onto Basilone Road, and once you get inside the park, obey the speed limit!! The Rangers patrol both the road and the park and a speeding ticket will cost you at least $271 (a friend got nailed).
