Richmond National Battlefield Park, in cooperation with the Department of Veterans Affairs, is sponsoring a Memorial Day wreath-laying program to honor and remember those who have died in our nation`s service—especially those soldiers and sailors from the Civil War. This annual event is scheduled for Monday, May 31, at 12 p.m. , at the Fort Harrison National Cemetery, on the Fort Harrison battlefield. The cemetery is located at
8620 Varina Road
, two miles south of Route 5 and eight miles south of Richmond. More than 800 Civil War soldiers are buried at the Fort Harrison National Cemetery.


Jeffry Burden, a local historian and presently the Vice-Commander-in-Chief of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS), will speak at the cemetery. MOLLUS is the oldest Civil War hereditary organization in the country. Mr. Burden also serves on the advisory committee for the Virginia Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, and is a member of the state’s Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee.
