New York-based Canadian jazz singer Melissa Stylianou is preparing to bring her quartet back into the studio to record a new record, but in the meantime, New York audiences are able to hear the ensemble lay down new songs and favorites at two upcoming December gigs. On December 12, at a free St. Peter’s Church for Jazz Vespers performance, Stylianou’s quartet will consist of pianist Jamie Reynolds, bassist Gary Wang, and drummer Rodney Green. Three nights later, at downtown staple 55 Bar, Stylianou will take the stage with Green, Wang, and guitarist Pete McCann. In addition to these performances and her upcoming album, Stylianou recently recorded a version of American singer-songwriter-harpist Joanna Newsom’s “Swansea,” which will be released on a soon-to-be-released compilation of Newsom covers that will benefit victims of the recent, devastating flooding in Pakistan.
