For our November meeting, we're please to announce two great presentations on one of the hottest topics in development circles - Asynchronous Javascript and XML (AJAX). We'll also be putting on *FREE* pizza.

"Flash, AJAX and PHP" by Scott Arbeitman :: 7.15pm - 8.00pm

Richer clients are becoming increasingly important to Internet development. Several options are available to developers to achieve better user experience and better system architecture. I'll explore several popular tools and frameworks for delivering engaging user experiences on the web:

* AJAX frameworks and toolkits
* Open Laszlo, an open-source Flash and Ajax generation framework
* Flex, Enterprise web application toolkit

Scott's talk will disucss how best to leverage these technologies, how to choose the right tool for the job, and show just how rapidly one can develop Ajax or Flash applications using PHP-powered services.

"Building an Asynchronous Multi-User Web App for Fun... and Maybe Profit" by Luke Welling :: 8.15pm - 9.00pm

Author of PHP and MySQL Web Development and MySQL Tutorial, Luke Welling will be presenting a demonstration of applied PHP + AJAX by building an multi-user online poker game. Luke's presentation will also feature discussion of the design issues associated with AJAX development along the way.

Problem Solving/Socialising - 9:00pm onwards

If you have an area of PHP that you need guidance in, or would like to share your experiences, this is the time for discussions with other group members. You can also talk to our presenters to learn about the technology they have presented.

The group usually moves on to a nearby pub at around 9:15.

Pizza, Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.
