About Vanita Gupta
SAALT is pleased to announce that Ms. Vanita Gupta will be the featured speaker at our October fundraising event. Vanita joined the national legal department of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in September of 2006, where she is litigating cases aimed at improving access to justice and education for communities of color. Vanita successfully led the effort to overturn the wrongful drug convictions of 38 individuals in Tulia, Texas as Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF). The Tulia cases will be the subject of an upcoming motion picture and book. For her work, Vanita has received the Reebok Human Rights Award (2004) and the American Red Cross “Rising Star” award (2003).
