Catherine Gildiner's second memoir "After the Falls" is the followup to her New York Times best-selling debut "Too Close to the Falls".

AFTER THE FALLS begins as Catherine starts public high school, hoping to find her place amongst the cliques and forge an identity of her own. In her lively and irresistible voice, Catherine recounts her adolescent misadventures both hilarious and frightening, from scheming to paint her neighbors’ lawn ornaments in a protest against racism, to spying on her friend’s older brothers while they entice a local girl into a disturbing sexual interlude, to landing a job as a hostess at the local Howard Johnson’s through sheer force of will.

AFTER THE FALLS is illustrated by Gildiner’s conversational tone and her natural storytelling abilities, but it also features a number of indelible characters: Catherine’s mother, who never cooks and spends much of her time on the living room sofa, and her father, whose erratic behavior leads to a devastating diagnosis that changes the family dynamic forever, and Laurie, Catherine’s first serious boyfriend, and intellectual African American football player whose relationship with Catherine challenges the societal norms of the 1960s.
