Meet Local Authors December 8, 2008

Marion Carnegie Library is hosting local authors from St. Ellen Press in December. St. Ellen Press is a new publishing house located in Herrin. They specialize in inspirational literature. Owner Sandra Conner says their goal is to encourage local authors with something to share. “We want to give new local authors a chance,” she adds. The press creates all of their book covers and does their own printing and binding.

Local children’s author Shyann Hine will present stories and activities on Saturday, December 6 at 2 p.m. Hine resides in Carbondale and is retired from Southern Illinois University. She writes and illustrates her books, which include Harvey Hamster and Faith and Hope at Christmas.

St. Ellen Press also publishes fiction and nonfiction for adults. Several local authors will present discussions on a variety of topics on Monday, December 8 at 6 p.m. Sandra Conner, author of Quenton’s Honor and Set Free to Love, will share her thoughts on how she finds inspiration to write and how St. Ellen Press came to be a reality.

Other authors published by St. Ellen Press include Ralph Brandon and Ted Pavloff. Brandon, a pastor and newspaper columnist from Carterville, will share humorous material from his youth, which is collected in his nonfiction book, Stories From the Sunnyside of Life. Pavloff, founder of Glory Ministries in Herrin and a Christian newspaper columnist, shares his wartime memories in his book.

Books will be available for purchase and a book signing will take place after both discussions. Both events are free and open to the public.
