The ecological and environmental impacts of companies are being much debated. Greenhouse gas/carbon, water and waste footprints are among the popular measures today spurred on by reporting systems such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, the Global Reporting Initiative and large retailers. What is involved with these measures? How are they calculated? How does the "footprint" of businesses differ?
In this program we will discuss these questions and examine how waste, water, energy, emissions and greenhouse gases are the environmental footprint measures that serve as the basis for comparative advantage in Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility and Socially Responsible Investment reports. Supply chain leaders Wal-Mart, Philips, Nokia and Cisco are increasingly basing their purchasing decisions on these measures. What type of footprint approach are you using? Does your approach to measurement meet the needs of your customer, global reporting standards and stakeholders? Does it contribute to continuously improving your organization and reducing your overhead costs? In this program we will introduce you to the concepts of ecological and environmental footprint and approaches used by business to measure and report.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Using current case studies, best practice examples and hands-on activities you will:

1.Identify the elements of your operation's environmental footprint.
2.Evaluate measurement methods and the basis for reporting.
3.Examine expectations of large supply chain leaders for environmental footprint measurement, reporting and reduction.
4.Examine different methods of visually representing results and discuss the use of results in energizing employee engagement.
5.Calculate components of your environmental footprint and gain access to tools that help track your progress.
