May Day Orchestra November 10, 2010

The May Day Orchestra is a collective group of musicians formed from several local bands. Songwriter Tim Rakel of The Union Electric and three members from the band Tenement Ruth wrote the current project in 2009. The multi-instrumentalists create layers of sound and tell history through a series of songs. Various narrative voices are used in the course of the "folk opera," a form which the group has invented for its musical compositions.
