Matmos with Leprechaun Catering July 23, 2008

Hear the latest direction from brilliant electonica duo Matmos—the sound developed for Supreme Balloon, coming on May 6 from Matador. They’re eschewing samples and off-the-wall sound sources for the pure electronic surge of synthesizers. They’ve rewired their ever-inventive soundscapes with a battery of synths, old and new, outdated consumer electronics, effect pedals, and even tabla drum machines imported from India.

Leprechaun Catering, new pals from Baltimore featuring members of Snacks plus Mark Willet of Half Japanese on rubber band, open the evening with a set of snappy free-form sonics.

Collector’s note: the vinyl and digital versions of Supreme Balloon include a bonus track with an Arp solo by Terry Riley, who Matmos met at the Wexner Center.
