In the crowded New York reggae scene, Hasidic reggae musician Matisyahu literally stands out like no other. With his long beard and black hat, this young lyricist, MC and beatboxer is a singular performer whose power, poetry and skills combine the sounds of Bob Marley and Shlomo Carlebach while remaining wholly original. Traditional Jewish themes are mixed with reggae, rock and hip hop beatboxing sounds.
