Join Grammy-nominated pianist and Kuumbwa artist-in-residence Murray Low for a FREE interactive workshop and demonstration on the "Art of the Afro-Caribbean Rhythm Section" featuring Ayla Davila on bass and Jesus Diaz on percussion. The role and contribution of each respective instrument will be discussed, along with how the various parts fit together to create a dynamic, modern, Afro-Caribbean Jazz sound. They will be moving beyond the basic patterns everyone learns, explaining several musical styles and "grooves". Jesus Diaz is a world-reknown percussionist known for his innovative approaches to Cuban music. Berklee-educated Ayla Davila is a first-call Bay Area bassist for jazz, Latin and world music. Murray is a veteran of both Latin and straight-ahead jazz, having stints with Pete Escovedo and John Santos' Machete ensemble.
