If you think you’ve been seeing a lot of Mary J. Blige of late, you would be right. She has recently appeared as a guest judge on 2010’s “American Idol,” as a guest on NBC’s “30 Rock” and in several film projects. She is touring for a handful of dates with the Lilith Fair this summer, plus, she and opera singer Andrea Bocelli recently released a duet covering Simon & Garfunkel’s classic song “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The prolific R&B singer began her music career at the age of 17 as Uptown Records’ youngest artist. She did some backup singing for other artists in Showtime at the Apollo performances. In 1992, Blige collaborated with Sean “Puff” Combs at Uptown Records for her debut album, “What’s the 411?” This album produced hits such as “Real Love,” “You Remind Me,” and a sultry cover of Rufus’ “Sweet Thing.” Since then, Blige has released eight more albums (eight of them multi-platinum) and has received nine Grammy awards.
