King Week 2010 is a celebration commemorating the national holiday observance of Dr. King’s birthday that begins with a Kick-Off Ceremony and Press Conference on the City Hall Steps in Los Angeles, California. At this free event, attendees will also have a chance to learn more about other events during King Week 2010, which include SCLC’s annual Multi-Faith Prayer Luncheon, Community Mixer, Women’s Commission on Human Rights Town Hall Forum, Labor Day of Action, and the 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Dinner Celebration.

In addition to the commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday, King Week 2010 is the primary fundraiser for the SCLC of Greater Los Angeles’ programs including the Rosa Parks Family Counseling and Sexual Assault Center, Hate Crimes Prevention Program, Martin Luther King Dispute Resolution Center (MLKDRC), and Beyond the Bell at Foshay Learning Center, at risk after school program.

Through the services of these programs the SCLC of Greater Los Angeles promotes the philosophy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and continues the unfinished agenda for progressive change. The goal is to realize the dream of freedom, peace, justice, and equality for all by recognizing the inalienable dignity and worth of every human being. The SCLC of Greater Los Angeles’ mission and mandate remains to organize and mobilize the strength of America’s moral consciousness against the weakness of its social order. The SCLC of Greater Los Angeles is committed to this vision in the Greater Los Angeles community.
