from the Bike Co-op's email list:

Be among the first to cycle (legally) from Downtown to the Towpath Trail without leaving the Flats!

The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op's annual winter ride this year will feature a special treat: Steelyard Commons is opening this week, and with the West 3rd St. Bridge is now open, we'll ride all the way to the Ohio-Erie Canal Visitor's center without climbing a single hill!

Except of course for the sledding hill. We'll take a trailer to carry some sleds and skis for the three custom ski-bikes we've built, along with a heater and some cocoa and cider, to stop along the way and enjoy the seasonal weather (5" predicted for tonight!).

Knobby tires are necessary as the towpath is not plowed, but if you only ride as far as the sled hill, a road bike might work.

On our return to the co-op, enjoy renown vegan chili, with non-vegan fixin's, and help yourself to the power washer to clean your bike. No registration fee will be charged, but donations are appreciated.

The ride starts at 1PM at the co-op, 1823 Columbus Rd in the Flats, and will total about 14 miles -- die-hard sledders may only ride about 5 miles if they opt to stay at the sled hill. Of course anyone who wants more pedalling could continue on south and back on the Towpath, for up to 100 miles.

This ride is now on wide, nearly deserted streets, so is suitable for children: we have two kid trailers for loan, too -- call first to reserve. Dress warm!

Is there a bridge over the canal south of Steelyard Commons to connect with the existing Harvard Rd. parking area? Or, does one have to take Jennings down to Harvard from SYC?
