Mark Steel
Popular writer, broadcaster and comedian

They say that life begins at forty, but for Mark Steel it started to go pear shaped. Come and hear him read from and discuss his new book.

'What's Going On?' is a funny and moving attempt to make sense of his mid life crisis.

His other books are:
Vive La Revolution - A History of the French Revolution.
Reasons To Be Cheerful - Autobiography concentrating on political activism.
It's Not A Runner Bean - Autobiography concentrating on his comedy career.

Mark Steel wrote a column for The Guardian between 1996 and 1999. He was sacked by that newspaper, according to him because The Guardian wanted to "realign towards Tony Blair" - though The Guardian denies this. In 2000 he started writing a weekly column for The Independent, which appears in the Wednesday Opinion Column.

The Mark Steel Revolution and Mark Steel Lectures were popular Radio 4 programmes. He also makes regular guest appearances on The News Quiz, Have I got News for You, and has appeared on Room 101, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Question Time.
