The Marin Poetry Center will present a special evening with author, poet, and essayist R.S. (Sam) Gwynn as part of Marin Poetry Center’s Third Thursday Series. The event is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant from The James Irvine Foundation.

R. S. (Sam) Gwynn has taught at Lamar University since 1976. He is the author of No Word of Farewell: Selected Poems 1970-2000 and is the editor of Poetry: A Pocket Anthology and Contemporary American Poetry (with April Lindner). He lectured at the 2009 annual West Chester University Poetry Conference on Formal Poetry, and is a regular reviewer for The Hudson Review. His essay on Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire will appear in a facsimile edition of the poem being published this fall by Gingko Press.

Marin Poetry Center was founded in 1981 by a dedicated group of Northern California poets as a non-profit organization designed to nurture an environment for the enjoyment of poetry and the spoken word. Based at San Rafael's Falkirk Cultural Center, it welcomes new poets, established writers, as well as anyone interested in poetry. MPC sponsors regular monthly readings and workshops; don't miss Marvin Bell coming on Monday, January 17, 2011. MPC also sponsors the annual Marin High School Poetry Contest and the Summer Traveling Show and publishes poets in its annual Marin Poetry Center Anthology.
