Founded in 1935, the Marin History Museum collects, preserves and presents Marin County’s history. The Marin History Museum has a collection of over 200,000 photographic images, a vast array of late 19th and early 20th century textiles and clothing as well as ephemera from public and private schools. Additionally, MHM’s collection includes artifacts from Marin’s business community, local industries, judicial system and domestic items from homes throughout Marin. The Marin History Museum currently operates two facilities: the Boyd Gate House in San Rafael and the Collections Research Facility in Novato and will open a third venue—the Marin History Museum Music Center—on 4th Street in San Rafael in autumn 2010.

The Marin History Museum Music Center in downtown San Rafael will present Marin Rocks, an original exhibition that will celebrate Marin's music community through displays and programs creating a blend of music, education, history and performance that connects visitors to Marin's music roots and the current music scene. Marin Rocks will include state-of-the-art interactive presentations, rare film and video footage, a multi-media performance space, priceless artifacts provided by bands, musicians, and collectors, and displays with the history of Marin’s recording studios, clubs and sound innovations. Marin Rocks programs will provide opportunities for musicians to play, teach and share their music and knowledge through workshops and master classes. A traveling music trunk will visit schools and diverse programs will be featured at local venues. For more information visit www.marinhistory.org
