Theron Kabrich and James Hartley, international art dealers and founders
of San Francisco Art Exchange (SFAE), have announced that the gallery will exhibit a rare collection of photos depicting American movie icons Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. The images, captured by photographers Bert Stern, Douglas Kirkland and Richard C. Miller, will be available for viewing when the exhibit opens on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2009 with a celebration from 7 to 10 p.m., and will remain on display until the end of March.

Stern photographed Monroe for her infamous Vogue shoot just six weeks before her death in late June, 1962. Kirkland is showing photos he took of Monroe for Look magazine. Legendary actor James Dean is depicted in photographs that Miller shot while Dean was on the set of his last movie Giant.
Monroe and Dean both enjoyed meteoric career ascents, both died tragically at young ages, and both are surrounded by a star quality aura that continues to grow with every passing year. With Monroe’s memorable performances in films such as Some Like it Hot (1959) and Bus Stop (1956) and Dean starring in East of Eden (1955), Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and Giant (1956), the two cultural icons not only etched enduring images, but initiated love affairs with the movie-going public that continues decades after their deaths.
