In 1991, four young string players - all African-Americans - won the prestigious International Cleveland Quartet Competition. To top off their achievement, they traveled across the country to perform in a private concert for the great African-American contralto, Marian Anderson in her last home in Portland, OR. In turn, she gave her blessing to the group's new name: The Marian Anderson String Quartet. They are the only all-femaile string quartet of color in the U.S.
