This Pena season tips the hats to Mexico on the first of the three-day celebration that is El Dia de Los Muertos. This tribute to Mexico features two of the longest standing traditional Mexican groups in the city of Chicago. Mariachi Real Guadalajara, under the direction of Nicolas Diaz, has been one of Chicago's preferred Mariachis since 1984. They have backed and toured with Mariachi's greatest singers and have represented Chicago's Mexican community at home and abroad. The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago, founded in 1982 by its current artistic directors and choreographers, Jose Luis and Matie Ovalle is the oldest and most recognized Mexican dance ensembles in Chicago. These two Mexican institutions will perform both together and separately.
