In the wake of The Buena Vista Social Club phenomenon, there has a been a re-awakening of interest in the variety of native Latin musical forms. MangoSon, a seven-piece local acoustic group, specializes in Cuban son, Dominican meringue, and Brazilian samba. The band says: ?Ultimately, we want to recreate the sounds you might have heard in the street corners and marketplaces of coastal cities of Latin America before the onslaught of keyboards and electric guitars....?

Founded in 2000, MangoSon has appeared at the Folklife Festival and Bumbershoot, as well as playing numerous dates on the local club scene. Though acoustic, MangoSon aims to ?get you dancing.? Just so you know, the precedent for dancing in the aisles at The Triple Door has already been set. It?s OK, go ahead. Just don?t knock over your server.
