Although the IPO market may be showing some signs of life, it will be some time before it is robust again. Until such time, M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) will be the predominant exit vehicle for start-ups and small companies, and even afterwards will remain a strong contender for start-ups' exits.

Despite how prevalent it is in the current economy, M&A remains a black box for the vast majority of entrepreneurs and small business managers.
