Historically, Aboriginal people actively managed waterholes to provide both cultural and ecological benefits (e.g. through incrasing surface water area and longevity) and had an encyclopeaedic knowledge of all water within their own traditional country. This talk provides a background to central Austrialia, and how developing bi-cultural techniques to survey and monitor Central Australia wetlands has enhanced both scientific and cultural outcomes.
