"MALA"
A story of defiant love …
in the face of the world’s greatest hatred

World Premiere of a true story of a love affair in Auschwitz
An avant-garde production brings this true story to life

Runs July 1st through July 26th, 2008

(Los Angeles, CA) (July, 2008)... Last Lion Productions presents the world premiere of MALA, a gripping love story from the depths of Auschwitz, running at The Complex Ruby Theatre until July 26th, 2008.

A Love Story in Auschwitz

In late 1943, Mala Zimetbaum met Edek Galinski, a striking 22-year old Polish soldier and fellow prisoner at Auschwitz. Despite the utterly dehumanizing conditions of the camp, Mala and Edek fell in love. With the help of their loyal and sometimes colorful friends, they escape. Mala's defiant, heroic gesture of preserving her humanity in the face of execution continues to inspire hope in the hearts of many.

MALA is based on the true story of Mala Zimetbaum, a young Jewish woman from Belgium who escaped with her lover from Auschwitz in June 1944.

“I don’t know what’s more amazing,” said Leavitt, “the fact that Mala got past the Nazis or that she could open herself to love in the worst, most dehumanizing place on earth.”

MALA runs July 1st through July 26th, 2008. Performances are at The Complex Ruby Theatre at 6476 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood, Tuesday through Saturday at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets are $25. Running time is 130 minutes with intermission. Allow time for parking.
