Fujimura studied with Nihonga master Matazo Kayama in Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. His paintings are heavily influenced by the 17th century decorative screen tradition called Rimpa, which 'combines decorative elements of patterns of nature into extravagantly rich images of gold, silver, mineral pigments, and sumi ink.'
