Magpie Blues
Starring Ursula Yovich
Riverside Theatres
Friday, 21 May at 7.30pm

Australia’s most beautiful songbird is set to swoop.

After a premiere performance at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2009, the mesmerising Ursula Yovich is bringing her soulful Magpie Blues, a memoir in song to Riverside Theatres on Friday, 21 May at 7.30pm in an exclusive Sydney concert.

From the Australian stage to London’s prestigious Carnegie and Elizabeth Halls, Ursula Yovich returns to our shores bringing her story to the stage with songs filled with sadness and soaring hope.

Supported by her five-piece band, Ursula Yovich combines an a cappella of Serbian songs, traditional song and blues in a remarkable musical journey between two worlds as she searches for her place of belonging. The concert includes a mix of old favourites such as Over the Rainbow, Fields of Gold and Let it Be and original songs, some of which were written with the help of James Shipstone, who co-penned with Yovich Spell on You which features on the new Message Stick album, Sending A Message. Yovich’s music tells stories of growing up in Darwin with an Aboriginal mother from Arnhem Land and a father born in Serbia and are infused with sadness, love, separation and dislocated cultural identity.
