Magnetic Morning (Mem. Interpol / Swervedriver)

What do you get when the lead singer of Swervedriver forms a side-project band with the drummer from Interpol? Not the cacophony you'd expect. Magnetic Morning is the result of such a collaboration and this band is a pleasant sonic surprise. The gentle but forceful guitars of the track "No Direction" communicate a musical ease that pervades this band's work. If rock could have the sub-classification of "easy listening" without any subsequent connotations, Magnetic Morning fit that bill. The duo play with a range of sounds, offering up something a little different, a little spicy in each track. "Come Back" utilizes echoey keys, synths and barely on-beat drums, before launching into a misty, yet steady beat, generated by even acoustic guitars and soft vocals. Honestly, the entire musical vibe reminds me a bit of the British band, Mansun, but, overall, Magnetic Morning resemble neither Interpol nor Swervedriver and it's certainly a good thing. Magnetic Morning play their set at Great Scott on October 20th. Check the Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/magneticmorning
