Written and performed by Joshua Walters, Madhouse Rhythm is an autobiographical collage based on one man's experience with madness. Walters, a slam poetry performer and a member of the beatbox collective The Vowel Movement, spills forth the inner workings of the mind as he recreates psychotic breakdowns and copes with the aftermath of recovery onstage. The piece stitches together a variety of styles, including hip hop theater, standup comedy and spoken word. Competing in slam poetry contests, Walters has received numerous prizes performing excerpts of this work-his first full-length solo production. This show will be presented as a work-in-progress with an extended post-show Q&A on March 8; Walters will return to the JCC Theater in May with an extended version of the piece.

"Joshua Walters finds the absurd in the everyday, magic in the mundane and playful humor in basic biological functions."
-Charles Ellik, Berkeley Slammaster
