Lyric Theatre of San Jose will present to the Bay Area premiere of Our Miss Gibbs on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 8 pm and Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 2 pm at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. It will also be showing on August 6, 2011 at the Lesher Center of the Arts in Walnut Creek. Our Miss Gibbs is a zany comedy from the golden age of London's famed Gaiety Theatre composed by Lionel Monckton and Ivan Caryll with a book by James T. Tanner. Our Miss Gibbs will be revived as a staged concert with salon orchestra.

Our Miss Gibbs pays homage to the City of London and its Gaiety Theatre, re-cast as the fictional Garrod's Department Store. The musical follows a zany Saturday for popular sales associate Mary Gibbs as she is sought in marriage - just as the show's real life star, Gertie Millar (composer Monckton's wife), was set upon by real-life Stage Door Johnnies and suitors from England's noble classes in Edwardian times.

The musical Cinderella tale follows down-to-earth Mary and her cousin Tim as their day on the town becomes unexpectedly complicated. Tim gets caught up in a theft, and poor Mary finds out that her boyfriend is really Lord Eynsford in disguise. Eynsford is engaged to socialite Lady Betty, and she is in love with the thief, Hughie. The second act takes place at the Franco-British Exhibition World's Fair, and the London 1908 Olympic Games.

The show's high jinks are set to some of the breeziest, most popular tunes of the Edwardian Era.
