Lulacruza intuitively weaves female vocals, South American instrumentation, found sound objects, and field recordings with electronic manipulation.

A duo from Argentina and Colombia, Luis Maurette and Alejandra Ortiz, channel their collage of sound into a spontaeous unfolding of contempory-primal song.

Luis has lived in many South-American countries and is fascinated by the universal principles that underlie different cultures. Originally as a drummer and later using his laptop, he has moved deeper and deeper into developing a flow between the modern and the ancient, combining and translating earthen intuitive layers and textures of traditional instrumentation with new technology. The ever constant search fro development of this project took him to Mills College in Oakland, CA, where he studied electronic music.

Alejandra, on the other hand, has lived most of her life in Colombia, where she feels a deep connection with the immemorial practices and sounds of the land. She is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who has been making music ever since she can remember. Her music is formed and nurtured through her presence in nature, being in silence, and exploring the movement of sound from that space.

Their debut album, Do Pretty! is a collection of contemplative songs that radiate outward in a kaleidoscopic soundscape. It was recorded in Oakland, CA (USA) and Bogota (Colombia), and mixed in Buenos Aires (Argentina). It features collaborations with Gregg Kowalsky, Ben Bracken, Quentin Sirjaq and others.

"LULACRUZA accomplishes the rare and remarkable feat of breathing an organic, fluid, and earth-bound life into the world of electronic music. It is as if they took electronic music and opened up a sky within it where the rain, mist and sun can come in."
