France was transformed during the Sun King’s long reign. As a consequence, so was the rest of Europe. New styles and a new degree of perfection could be seen in buildings, interiors, gardens, and objects. Court life shone as never before. The king himself set the tone of the age, and the result was a long series of masterpieces including Versailles, Trianon, and Marly and the East Front of the Louvre.
