To cap the holiday season, the Los Angeles Master Chorale presents a concert version of Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, December 22, 2012, 7:30 pm, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Kiki & David Gindler Music Director Grant Gershon conducts 48 members of the acclaimed chorus, orchestra and four gifted soloists from among the Chorale’s ranks: Elissa Johnston, soprano, Adriana Manfredi, mezzo soprano, Jon Lee Keenan, tenor, and Vincent Robles, baritone. The concert provides the opportunity to hear this riveting oratorio – rich with soaring high notes, powerful bass, majestic brass and lush orchestrations – performed by what many critics consider to be the best chorus in the country. Composed in 1741 in a mere 24 days, Handel’s English-language oratorio may be the most performed classical work of all time. It is set to the libretto by Charles Jennens, who drew texts from the King James and Great Bibles.

“Handel’s Messiah is the vocal equivalent of a holiday tree-topper,” says Gershon. “It’s always a thrill to conduct, especially in Disney Hall with its magnificent acoustics.”
