LOOK INSIDE Canada's largest university of art and design

On Saturday, October 21, from 11 am to 4 pm, all are invited to LOOK INSIDE the behind-the-scenes world of art and design. Visit the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) during our second annual open house. Take a self-directed studio tour, watch a student demo, talk with faculty, or get involved in a hands-on workshop. We'll provide a glimpse of emerging trends and where art and design practice is making new connections.

Visitors can discover an entirely new type of interactive experience. Our newest research team from the Mobile Digital Commons Network (MDCN) shows how art and design are expanding into the world of mobile technology. Take one of our special cell phones on a test drive in the neighbouring park.

See the intricate processes of art making: silk screening on fabric, acid dying on silk, throwing on a potters wheel, editing images and sound for film, making paint from scratch, digital photo printing and even digital painting are a few of the examples of demonstrations underway in our open studios.

Try your own hand at mold making, drawing with charcoal, illustrating a live model in period costume, or participate in a "learn to draw" session for beginners.

Learn from our experts. Short talks throughout the day provide a sampling of the subjects we teach at OCAD. Sit in on mini lectures such as understanding Michelangelo's David, the mysteries of colour, the evolution of typography and more.

Talk with members of our community. Some of our most successful young alumni are back to tell you what it took to get started in their diverse careers. Volunteers from our Student Mentor program talk about their experiences studying at OCAD. Admissions staff will be on hand to answer your questions about applying. And members of faculty are located throughout the building to share highlights about the programs we teach.

Enjoy art and design work throughout the campus, with a special exhibit in the Great Hall of work produced by students of OCAD's Florence program. You can even take home your own work: exotic masks, produced from the annual collaboration between the Art Gallery of Ontario and OCAD students, are on sale for $60 each.
