The Crescent
Salford, England M5 4WT

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Lorna Warren, University of Sheffield

Aimed at:

Academics, researchers, students, older people and organisations working with and supporting older people.

Seminar Focus:

This research seminar looks at ageing, gender, visual and participatory research methods.

Seminar Content:

In the 'Look at Me!' project, older women have worked together to explore dominant images of women and to make their own individual images of ageing. After briefly outlining the participatory approaches employed, this seminar will show examples of images created in the project workshops, providing the opportunity to reflect critically on both.

Dr. Lorna Warren

Dr. Lorna Warren is Senior Lecturer in Social Policy in the Department of Sociological Studies, at the University of Sheffield. Much of her research has centred on social care for older people and their carers, drawing from a wide variety of perspectives and considering age in relation to gender, ethnicity and sexuality.

Recently, she has become more interested by 'user involvement' and the idea of user-controlled research, raising questions about how we come to know what we know about the lives of people who use services, and the connection of this knowledge with social care policy and practice.
