6th Annual London 4th of July BBQ Picnic!

Independence Day would not be the same without it!

Last year we got a bit rained out. Last July 4th was the worst January day I've ever experienced! But we appear to be back on track weather wise; We'll be out picnicking rain or shine (or both!)

We meet from 2:30 in Mile End Park, which is a lovely grass carpeted terraced park near a small lake and the regents canal. We will have a BBQ grill working there that everyone is free to use as well as paper plates and napkins, ketchup and mustard. I'm also going bring some hotdogs, hamburgers and a case of beer to get us started.

The idea is BYO; You only have to bring some thing for yourself, or nothing at all. Bring something to grill as the BBQ will be available.

At past 4th picnics people have brought a little extra of one item, in the spirit of pot luck, to share. We'd encourage that; if anyone would like to contribute something (like your gram's best potato salad, or hey| more beer ; )) please list what you are bringing below on the comments area of this page(or just surprise us!).

This is a kid friendly event, so prams and kids running around in the fresh air are welcome. There is going to be organized softball and touch football.

Toilets are available at the nearby Palm Tree Pub, which is canal side and actually in the park. Beer is available to take away in plastic cups, at pub prices. We will be heading there later as the sun sets (possible live music?).

The place picked out is a beautiful grassy green near a small lake, tended garden and peaceful canal side, near a pub and a BBQ with 200 or so of your closest friends! So see you there!

You Must Bring
A blanket, bottled water for yourself.

Do NOT Bring
No fireworks allowed, period. They are not permitted in the park under any circumstances. We have never ended a picnic with a trip to A&E and we are not about to start now!

Do Bring optional
Frisbee's, sports gear, extra beer! ; ) , your enthusiasm!

We ask that everyone use a common sence aproach to litter and take out EVERTHING OUT they brought in with them. Remember: We are in a foriegn country and any mess left behind will reflect badly on not only us but the U.S.A. Mile End is a pristine and expensivly maintained public park, lets not spoil it!

Directions

Once at Clinton and Grove:(a 2Min walk) Clinton Road is off Grove Road between the Texaco gas station and a Railway viaduct, across the street from Litchfield Road. Enter Clinton Road and head strait into the park, there'll be a blue hobbit house/ telletubby type structure built into the side of a hill with a sign on it saying "Arts Pavilion". Take a right as you face this structure and walk along the path. We are on the opposite side of the hill structure and the pond, but before the canal.

Look for the (what can only be described as..) deformed cement chickens.. or sunnyside up eggs sculptures. (?? your guess is as good as mine as to what they are supposed to be: )) Or better yet look out for the BBQ grill and the friendly Yanks on the beautiful grassy green!

By Tube: get to Mile End Tube via Central, District or Hammersmith and City Lines. When you exit the station (only one exit) you will be facing North. Take the nearest large intersection street to your right, this will be Grove/ Mile end. head north on Grove till you reach the Texaco and Railway viaduct. This is Clinton Road (which is signed). Enter the park and join the BBQ!

By Bus: The 25 and 205 run 24 hours from Central London (Oxford Street, Holborn, ChanceryLane The City or Baker Street, Kings Cross, Old Street respectively ) and stop at Mile End.

The 277, 339, D6 & D7 buses stop right outside the park at Clinton street at the Lichfield road stop.

By Car: There is ample side street parking nearby, but cannot be guaranteed!
