While experts welcome this move to involve corporates in saving the built heritage, they point out the pact with Sail is coming under the National Culture Fund that was formed for this purpose by the ministry of culture some years ago and did not work in Delhi. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is signing an MoU with the Steel Authority of India Limited for the "preservation, conservation and maintenance" of the Lodhi-period monuments here. An amount of Rs 1 crore will come from the deal and be used to give some much-required uplift to Sikandar Lodhi's tomb, Sheesh Gumbad, Bada Gumbad, Mohammad Shah's tomb and Athpula, the last of the few Akbar period buildings in Delhi.
