A Free Family & Community Event

New vibes and exhibitions in your space - supporting youth culture to inspire performance and activity

In 2005 / 06 the ‘LOCALe Music for Ya Park’ events attracted in excess of six thousand attendees across eight events.

An ongoing series of community skate-park events aimed towards youth and young families, ‘LOCALe Music for Ya Park’ is now a name synonymous with a quality family day out. The first event for 2007 takes place Saturday March 17th @ Coorparoo Skate Park (The Common Park, Cambridge Street, Coorparoo). Catering for kiddies, teens, parents and of course skaters, as is customary for LOCALe events, an incredible span of activities has been lined up.

Proceedings kick off for kids 12 noon: games, free face painting, sand art and food stalls.

Activities roll on through the afternoon with:

Ex Brisbane Bullets player Andre Moore running basketball workshops and three on three player games
Break Dancing Performance and Workshops
Drumming Circle Workshops
FAD Fitness & Dance Group
Firetricks – Twirling and Tricks Workshop
Neighbour planning info stalls

Including live musical performances from:

Cardboard Castle
8 Ball Aitkens
Letter to Spain
Nunukul Yuggera
Adam Hegarty
And in case that’s not enough:

Skate Workshops - there will also be a skate comp with open entry.
Pro skater and BMX riding demonstrations
Arts, Craft & Food Stalls
The Vulcana Womens Circus workshops - come try your hand at stilt walking, hula hooping, roller balancing and much more.

+ of course a chance for local skaters and riders to strut their stuff – entry to the event and involvement in all activities is free.

One of the predominant ideas behind the LOCALe events is that 'public spaces' are exactly that - public spaces - and that their use need not be restricted by pre-conceived perceptions of their functionality and demographic'. A particular focus of the 'Music For Ya Park' events is to attract young women and families to the skate park environment.
