Local author and organic farmer Will Allen at the Norwich Bookstore February 27, 2008

Will Allen is an entrepreneur, activist, and organic farming visionary. His book, The War on Bugs, illustrates how, in the early nineteenth century, in response to the commercialization of farming to increase output, chemical companies declared war on insects. Pesticide manufacturers, advertisers, scientists, large-scale farmers, and government agencies convinced most growers to use deadly chemicals, hormones, and genetically modified organisms. He details how consumers and activists struggle against toxic food and how to move towards more nonviolent, sustainable agriculture.
