Business Breakfasts present an opportunity for members and their guests to hear local successful business people expose the reasons for their success (and possibly pick up a few tips!), to meet informally and discuss ideas and issues of the day, promote their business and make new contacts.

Meetings will commence at 7.45am with coffee and registration followed by breakfast at 8.00am. Our guest speaker will take the platform at 8.30am for approximately 20 minutes after which members and their guests will be invited to ask questions. The meeting will conclude at 9.00am.

Our next speaker is…………….
Dame Lorna Muirhead
Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside

Dame Lorna Muirhead came to Liverpool in 1965, intending to stay for three years. Over 40 years later, she is still with us, and has made such an impact that she is now the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside

After schooling in Shropshire and Warwickshire, Lorna trained as a midwife in Hallam Hospital, West Bromich before beginning work as a Staff Midwife on the Labour Ward of Liverpool Maternity Hospital, now known as Liverpool Women’s Hospital and one of the busiest maternity units in the country. There she delivered many thousands of babies, and shared many joys and a few sorrows with the women of Liverpool. Her enthusiasm for her vocation was evident when she hit the national headlines by comparing her delivery suite with the Anfield Kop “You’ll never push alone, claims Liverpool midwife.”

Her pre-eminence as an advocate for her chosen profession has been acknowledged many times, not least when she became President of the Royal College of Midwives in 1997, and acted in this role as an ambassador for midwives nationally and internationally. Honours include fellowships of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and of Liverpool John Moores University. When further recognition came in the Millennium Year with her appointment as Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for services to midwifery, she was for once lost for words.

Dame Lorna was appointed Deputy Lieutenant in 2003 and last year was appointed Lord-Lieutenant upon the retirement of Alan Waterworth.
