A Live performance by Tripple Sec, featuring Rajiv Sapru on vocals, Sandip Patankar on vocals, harmonium and harmonica; and Aatur Soni on vocals, drums & percussion. The band specialises in fusion music where Sufi-meets-Blues. Tripple Sec aims at fusing together classical Indian and sufi music together with some upbeat groovy blues using a blend of modern and earthy tones; what results is a mesmerizing fusion of 'world music' which is a treat to every listeners ears. Rajiv Sapru (Vocals and Guitar) A chemical engineer by education and AVP of a private bank by profession, this 31 year old is nothing but a musician at heart. After having trained under the watchful eye of Ustad Ajmal Ali Khan Sahab of the magical Patiyala gharana, this humble vocalist and guitarist is mesmerizing to watch and hear. A powerful yet angelic voice sets Rajiv apart from the rest in terms of texture and variety of voice and music genres. Rajiv has previously been a finalist on the Middle East and Pakistan Sa Re Ga Ma Pa challenge and has just been crowned Radio Star of Dubai 2009. Sandip Patankar (Vocals, Harmonica and Harmonium) - After having worked in sectors as varied as Hospitality, Aviation, Automobiles, Insurance, Property Development and even Defence, this thoroughbred musician has played every genre of music there has been. Whether it is jamming with Slash or doing solos for bollywood film music or getting into the groove with some honky tonk blues; you get what you want to hear has clearly been his motto ever since he started performing at the tender age of 4. Aatur Soni (Vocals, Drums and Percussion) - Son of the iconic drummer, percussionist and saxophone player, Suresh Soni, Aaturs drumming brings a different breed of variety to the table with his innovative and punchy beats. After having played for films from the age of 14, he has had a journey spanning rock, soul, fusion and new age metal besides the usual bollywood music that he plays for a living. Being a regular with industry biggies Shaan and Rahul Sharma, Aatur has recently started playing for music director duo, Vishal Shekhar. Tripple Sec Sufi Meets Blue - Rajiv and Sandip have been playing together since late 1999 after having met randomly in Sandips college canteen. Little did they both know that this association would churn magic to their listeners across India and even Dubai where they both work. It was destiny that brought them together to exploit their inborn talents and what followed is history. This trip to Mumbai from Dubai was a mere co-incidence. Sandip was long playing with the idea of recording some tracks to send to music festival in London and so he approached Aatur, who is also a professional programmer, to help him with putting together the music. He flew down to Mumbai and was only surprised when Rajiv announced that he would be joining them soon. This trio was going to be together in Mumbai after 5 years (they have been close friends from before and have met regularly in Dubai when Aatur travels to perform with Shaan). After having toyed with the idea of jamming up at friends places, they realized that the best platform for them to come together and give their beloved city a glimpse of their brewing talent was here better than anywhere else. Tripple Sec aims at fusing together classical Indian and sufi music together with some upbeat groovy blues using a blend of modern and earthy tones; what results is a mesmerizing fusion of world music which is a treat to every listeners ears.
