Live - Null Friction band at Hard Rock Cafe. Null Friction is an Indian rock band formed in 2005 in the city of Madras (Chennai). Following the DIY route, the band released their self-produced EP, 'World Wide Quiet,' in 2005 which went on to sell almost all its copies in the first week of distribution. Influences: In spite of being influenced by bands such Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, RHCP, and Nirvana, the members of the band draw inspiration from their Indian connection which is not limited to just musical inspiration. Being inspired by the soils of India, the band has now decided to make use of their deep Indian roots to drive themselves up the ladder. Hence, nowadays they are deeply engrossed in working towards expressing this Indian connection through a more unique and distinct sound. Original Compositions: In time, the band came up with a good number of songs and decided to spread it across. The band recorded their first song, 'Somehow', in their school's Sports room with bare minimum recording equipment. Null Friction recorded four songs for their EP, 'World Wide Quiet'. The album was sold at various venues by the members of the band and went on to sell almost all copies, within the first week itself!. Landmark performances: Null Friction has performed in competitions, gigs, festivals earning itself various accolades, praises and a steady fan following. It was during this time that Null Friction, took part in an essentially college level competition called 'Underground 06'. Over the two days the competition lasted, the band came out with the coveted title 'Last Band Standing' tagged to them. They also won various other awards such as best acoustic band, best own composition for the song 'Somehow', Shreyans won the best vocalist award while Abhishek took away the best bassist award at the acoustic show. Band Members: Abhishek 'Dolly' Singhal: (Bass) - Abhishek has been constant and strong performer while handling the duties of being the band's bass guitarist and tour bus driver. Abhishek is influenced by the likes of Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Bobby Talwar (Zero), Dirk Lance (Incubus), and Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine). He is known for his melodic and well thought out bass lines in Chennai's underground scene. Abhishek is also a regular contributor to the band's lyrical content. Ansh 'Goldy' Sanyal: (Drums) - On the look out for a drummer, the band encountered Ansh, who had just moved to Chennai a few days ago. It turned out that Ansh was not even a drummer he just claimed to be one. But, up until they were told, neither of the other two knew this, and Ansh, delivering more and more outstandingly each time he played, gave them no reason to suspect. Ansh is inspired by the likes of Abbe Cunningham (deftones), Jose Pasillas (Incubus), Danny Carey (Tool), Shannon Larkin (Godsmack). Shreyans 'Smiley' Jha: (Vocal and Guitars) - Shreyans is the guitarist and vocalist of the band. He has won numerous awards for his vocals and songwriting. His nature as a constant experimenter suits the band's everexpanding style of music. He is inspired by Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Mike Einzinger (Incubus), Stephen Carpenter (Deftones), Rex Vijayan (Avial) as well as a host of electronic music artists such as Trentmoeller, Infected Mushroom, and Udyan Sagar. Genre: We feel that our music, though diverse and extensive, can be fitted into the pre-existinggenres of Rock, Grunge and Progressive. Performance on stage: The band is known for their on-stage energy and vivacity. In spite of being just a three member band the band is recognized for being able to fill up even the biggest stage, not because they are fat, but because of their vigor and liveliness.
